This is an organization and charity that is very dear to my heart. I’ve searched and Donate Life doesn’t utilize youtube or vlogging to help raise awareness about organ donation and being an organ donor. I decided to include this because I think Donate Life could benefit immensely by utilizing youtube and vlogging because it would get the cause out there and they could also dispel some rumors that are always heard when discussing being an organ donor. I think this will be useful for my project because I can use this as the other side of the spectrum. This site and organization is doing well without youtube, but it could benefit.
3. Dyer, Myles. “Welcome to My World Where All Have the Chance to Inspire.” Youtube.com. 2006. Web. 27 Feb 2011. http://www.youtube.com/user/Blade376
This is the video channel for Myles Dyer (Blade 376). I decided to include this because Myles really does do a lot of inspirational things like help out various charities and people themselves. He has really great videos that can help people out if they’re having a bad day or if they’re just not happy in general. Myles also talks about various issues in his videos, like his most recent one deals with the subject of hate, which most people are used to hearing about in various settings and situations. I think Myles is a great guy and he is very useful for my project because he sort of gave me the idea for this project.
2. Dyer, Myles. “How to make your 1st Vlog! START TODAY!” Youtube.com. 2007. Web. 27 Feb 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtvKLtMnH4U
This is a video that was made by youtube vlogger, Myles Dyer, aka Blade376. He’s a pretty famous youtuber and he is also the one who kind of organizes StickAid, the organization that gave me the idea of my project. I think this video is very important to my project because Myles basically creates a how-to instructional video on how to do your very first vlog. He breaks everything down in an easy to do format and he makes sure to explain everything so you’ll understand it. This video has probably helped many other people who have wanted to start vlogging but didn’t know how to or didn’t know what to talk about or anything else like that. It’s very helpful and informative.
4. “EA SPORTS Active Retreat Vlog & March of Dimes Charity Auction.” Scraps of My Geek Life. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://scrapsofmygeeklife.com/vlogging/ea-sports-active-retreat-march-of-dimes-charity-auction/
This is a personal blog that this woman has set up to sort of track herself throughout her run in the Active Retreat. She also made a vlog about the retreat as well. She did post up a little bit about the celebrity charity event that was hosted by Nancy O’Dell. There’s a also a link to the March of Dimes Charity Auction website within the blog. I thought this was useful because she did something for herself and for a cause and she made a vlog about it.
5. Jerome. “Blogging, Vlogging & Thought Leadership.” Open Source Charity. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://opensourcecharity.com/blogging-vlogging-thought-leadership
This is a rather small blog post, but it is still very useful because it uses the video clips to help explain and prove their point about how you can use vlogging and blogging to help charities raise money and become more wide spread throughout the populous. They also include a handy and helpful slideshow to further their point about utilizing blogging and vlogging and many other media outlets to help charites and other organizations to help the world.
6. McDonnell, Charlie. “CHARLIEISSOCOOLLIKE: An English Twenty-something Who Makes Videos.” Youtube.com. 2006. Web. 27 Feb 2011. http://www.youtube.com/user/charlieissocoollike?blend=1&ob=4
I’ve included Charlie’s youtube video channel in this bibliography because Charlie utilizes youtube to do some strange things, but he also goes for the informative side as well. His most recent video is about the Moon and includes various scientific facts about the moon. He has other videos that are informative and he also has a video about StickAid and a video that was filmed during StickAid. Charlie is a great person and he uses youtube in various ways that are helpful to people less fortunate.
7. World Vision. “Sponsoring a Child is the Most Powerful way you can fight poverty.” World Vision. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://www.worldvision.org/content.nsf/pages/sponsor-a-child?open&campaign=1193512&cmp=KNC-1193512
I didn’t focus on any specific point of this website; I just chose the site in its entirety. I know of a few vloggers that do vlogs for World Vision and these vlogs basically just get the word out about the charity and to tell everyone that this is a growing problem and it is staying strong and something needs to be done about it. A few vloggers went to Africa to help with World Vision and the one (Alex) did several vlogs while he was there. World Vision tries to help so many people in Africa who don’t have the means to help themselves and they get the help from everyday people and some just happen to be vloggers who talk about their experience and the cause and make a video about it so all of their viewers now know about it as well.
8. Red Nose Day. “Do Something Funny For Money.” Red Nose Day. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://www.rednoseday.com/
Red Nose Day is an organization that raises money and uses well known actors and everyday people to help raise the money. This is important to my topic because it utilizes the internet and vlogging because Charlie just did a vlog that talked about Red Nose Day. It's an event that is held in England and, like I said before, they get various stars to help out with sketches for the Comic Relief portion of the show. This is a vital addition to my project because it is essentially like World Vision. It helps those less fortunate in the world by utilizing the internet and television to help raise awareness and money about the organization.
9. Wikipedia. "Video Blogging." Wikipedia. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_blogging
This article on wikipedia is all about video blogging, or vlogging. This is central to my project because it deals with using vlogging for many things, with a special concentration on charities and fund raising. There are several sections in this article like the history of vlogging and significant events in vlogging. I use wikipedia for a lot of things, if not everything when I look something up or search it, so I figured it would be good to include it in this annotated bibliography.
10. Wikipedia. "List of YouTube personalities." Wikipedia. 2010. Web. 22 Feb 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_YouTube_personalities
This wikipedia article deals with YouTube personalities. It is a list that is compiled of all of the current YouTube personalities that have been "famous" or are seen as "famous" by the popular majority. I think this is useful for my project because I'm talking about three different vloggers in this paper that have utilized YouTube to help themselves and to help others by helping charities and organizations.
