1. The title of my project is "Vlogging vs. Blogging". It's not that cool of a title, but I like it and it really sums up my project. I'm really trying to see why people prefer one to the other or if they like both.
2. I think my guiding question is basically why is vlogging better than blogging? Obviously, this is based on my own opinion because I prefer vlogging to blogging, but I honestly believe that vlogging is more popular to do and to be a part of by watching the videos that people make.
3. I don't really know what Lessig would think of my project. I don't think he'd particularly care about it though. But, I think if he did care about it, he would probably say something like none if it my original idea because I'm sure someone has already thought about the whole vlogs vs. blogs thing before me and, obviously, I didn't make the videos that I'm using in my trailer, so they aren't my original idea, yes, I agree with them, but I didn't think of it first.
I like the topic, and I think what is really key to think about is the content of what you post. Specifically-when someone vlogs--many times it is just a banter, a conscious (or unconscious) stream of thought that is up for interpretation by whoever reads it. Certainly blogs can have those same qualities as well, but when blogging, the author can edit, re-word, re-type, re-phrase, possibly even plagiarize. Does this pose as an advantage or a disadvantage?
ReplyDeleteAlso, with blogs, people can gain credibility. Just yesterday, the Huffington Post--a blog community centralized on American Politics sold their "blog-world" to AOL Time Warner for over 300 million Dollars. The Huffington lady who started the Huffington Post is now a multi-millionaire, simply from attaining credibility from her blog, and then gaining a large amount of followers. Can Vlogs do this? Is it harder?
Things to think about: 1. citing sources (how can vlogs do this) 2. What you say is what you say (what are the risks involved with vlogs).
Exlpore those and hopefully you can get somewhere. Certainly theres much to talk about.
I like your title - you're right it sums up your project perfectly and I don't see any need to do anything fancy with it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could relate your project to Lessig by just exploring the different ways to share and build off of ideas. Does vlogging make it easier to share ideas as opposed to blogging? (i.e. by sending a clearer message, does vlogging allow more freedom of expression, etc?)
BTW, I really liked your idea in the post below too - I think splicing vlogs to make it sound like they know you sounds like a really cool idea.
